Competing flow and collision effects in a monodispersed liquid–solid fluidized bed at a moderate Archimedes number

چکیده

We study the effects of fluid–particle and particle–particle interactions in a three-dimensional monodispersed reactor with unstable fluidization. Simulations were conducted using immersed boundary method for particle Reynolds numbers 20–70 an Archimedes number 23 600. Two different flow regimes identified as function number. For low ( $20 < Re_p 40$ ), porosity is relatively dynamics are dominated by interparticle collisions that produce anisotropic velocity fluctuations. The relative importance hydrodynamic increases increasing number, leading to minimized anisotropy fluctuations at intermediate high $Re_p > effects, decreasing more A sharp increase occurs when from 40 50, corresponding transition regime which collision equally important (regime 1) hydrodynamic-dominated 2). results imply optimum roughly investigated 600 mixing expected peak, consistent studies showing peak performance similar Results also show maximum effective attained Future work required relate

Hydrodynamic Behavior of Particles in a Jet Flow of a Gas Fluidized Bed

Numerous investigations have been devoted towards understanding the hydrodynamics of gas jets in fluidized beds. However, most of them address the problem from  macroscopic point of view, which does not reveal the true behavior in the jet region at the single particle level. The present work aims to understand the jet behavior from a more fundamental level, i.e. the individual particle leve...

Velocity fluctuations in a low-Reynolds-number fluidized bed

The velocity fluctuations of particles in a low-Reynolds-number fluidized bed have important similarities and differences with the velocity fluctuations in a low-Reynoldsnumber sedimenting suspension. We show that, like sedimentation, the velocity fluctuations in a fluidized bed are described well by the balance between density fluctuations due to Poisson statistics and Stokes drag. However, un...

Control of a Fluidized Bed Polyethylene Reactor

In present paper, dynamic behavior and control of a fluidized bed reactor for polyethylene production has been considered. A double active sites model for Ziegler-Natta catalysts is used for simulation of polymerization reaction. Hydrodynamic behavior of the bed is modeled using a two phase model including bubble and emulsion phases in which bubble phase has plug flow pattern with different...

Experimental Study of Coating in a Bottom Sprayed Fluidized Bed

Several investigations have been devoted towards understanding the coating process in fluidized beds. Most of these studies focused on spraying liquid droplets over the bed. However, due to the complexity of these systems, more investigations are still required to quantify the effect of operating conditions on the coating criteria. The present work aims at fundamentally understanding and pr...
